“You’re the only one who understands me. No, that’s stupid, I’m talking to a cat. I’m talking to myself.” Kakeru stopped pacing as the small ball of fur squirmed out of her blanket and licked his fingers with her scratchy tongue. “But you do understand,” he said, reaching over to pet her. “That’s no stranger than believing in little green men on the moon or whatever else Himeko is accusing me of.”
He jumped up again, all skin and bones, to flip a telescope across the sky and he grinned back at the little black-purple cat. “Don’t worry; we’ll find Princess Kaguya. Just you and me, my sweet.”
