Ami latched and shuttered her windows against the words on the wind. She had studying to do and turned on her desk lamp as she closed her curtains.
Rei eyed the sparkling wards around the temple and posted new hand-made scrolls at the gates of her house. If the wind seemed brighter and more colorful outside than where she swept, well, then she knew it wasn’t a trick of the eye.
Makoto gripped the cold iron of the pipe she was reattaching carefully, wiping speckles of blood off it from the fight she’d just been in. There had been teeth in the whirlwind that had spun up after those punks had jumped her. Tiny teeth and rose petals. She kept the pipe on her way home after all.
Minako flirted, ignoring the butterflies of voices around her from hangers on and on the wind. She surrounded herself with air-conditioning and walls of plaster and fake chemical fabrics and layers of paint covering her body.
Usagi wandered out of the train halfway between Kamakura and Fujisawa on a school trip and disappeared.
