“Ryo, are you okay?” asked Sailor Mercury.
“I’m fine.”
She was much more right than he was and needn’t have been a doctor before the Crystal Millennium to tell there was something wrong. He was pale and sweating and his pupils were constricted to pinpricks.
“Are the wards on the Palace getting to you again? The Silver Crystal?”
He didn’t answer directly but didn’t need to. “I’ll be fine as long as I stay in human form and don’t use any magic.”
“You don’t look fine,” his wife reiterated.
“It’s just Bunpo. I wouldn’t be much of an ambassador if I couldn’t be in the presence of the Neo-Queen.”
“In her presence without pain is a different matter than at all.”
Ryo nodded, though what he meant and was not saying was he had a high pain tolerance. “Just needed a breather. We can continue now, dear.” As they wound deeper into the Crystal Palace the Silver Crystal burned at the taint of Metallia in his blood and bone.
