“Where are we?”

“It doesn’t matter since everywhere is the same. But we’re on Earth. Or where Earth was.”

Sailor Moon realized the important question Sailor Pluto meant her to ask. “When are we?”

“Exactly.”

Sailor Moon spun around. “Neo-Queen Serenity.”

“My Queen. I have done as you commanded.”

“Very good. Usagi, what do you see?”

“Nothing. Some dust I guess. What happened to Earth? Am I supposed to prevent it?”

“No. Time happened to Earth.”

“I can’t see any stars but we’re in space.”

“There are no stars left. It’s like this everywhere.”

“What destroyed them?”

“They burned out as stars do when it was their time. But there were none to replace them because there have been no new stars since I destroyed the Galaxy Cauldron.”

“I was standing before it, trying to decide. But I didn’t…”

“This is a future that could be. It’s still your choice.”

“This is what will happen?”

“A future with no Chaos, with no Sailor Cosmos, where everything lives to its potential in the space it is given and then dies in its time and nothing new replaces it. If the Cauldron exist so does Chaos. A future there is full of possibility. Everything could die sooner and suffer more along the way. Or the universe could become more than they ever were. People would hope and struggle but live in the face of uncertainty and failure and loss. You need to know what your choice means.”

“I… Thank you, Serenity. May I have a few minutes to think before I go back to make my choice?”

“As long as you want.”

“Yeah, I guess as long as I want if nothing changes.” She laughed weakly. The silence spread. Usagi pursed her lips, then tapped her foot, then whistled. Then as a last resort she did her least favorite thing, thought.

“I’m ready to go back. I’ve decided.”
