Mamoru looked at the doctor pleadingly.
“How sure are you?”
“We did multiple pregnancy tests, each one of which is at least ninety percent reliable.”
The doctor’s office was so cheery, with bright, colorful pictures on the wall. It did no seem the place for news like this.
“We knew she would be coming soon.”
“Yeah, but Usako, I thought I was going to be the father, not mother.”
The doctor patted him on the head and slipped the pregnancy tests into his record folder. “I’ll refer you to a gynecologist. For now, have a lollipop.”
