Mamoru lowered the subtle knife slowly but snapped quickly, “I don’t know, odango atama. You have the alethiometer.” The air was fresher than industrialized worlds, the grass green, and the landscape at roughly the same proportions as the world he knew.
“Oh.” Usagi unclipped the golden instrument from the gaudy broche on her bow and turned the wheels while absently stroking her dæmon in her lap in rabbit form. “Oh!”
“What is it?” Mamoru leaned over her shoulder, but he could make no sense of the tiny symbols.
“We’re in the Silver Millennium. Mamoru, we can get our memories back!” the blonde cried, her dæmon turning into a butterfly and fluttering around in excitement.
Then we’ll take the knife to your mother, Mamoru repeated the promise to his dead father.
