“Yes. He just needs a few more minutes with your sister’s grave.”
“Why is he talking to himself?”
“He’s talking to her.”
Her son gave Keiko a skeptical look.
“He’s talking to himself. He still believes he could have saved her in the accident if he’d listened to the voices in his head.”
“Is it time?”
“A few more seconds and we drag him away as usual.”
“Three… two… one… Now?”
“Okay.”
He ran across the grass to his father. “Daddy, talking to yourself is crazy.”
“He’s right, dear.” Keiko walked more carefully to avoid crushing any flowers.
Her husband hugged her. “I’d been so scared I lost you both I was hearing things and was ready to agree to anything until you got through to me.”
A tackle to their hug at knee height nearly knocked them both over.
“I think someone’s hungry.”
“Me, me, me.”
Keiko didn’t spare another glance back at Hotaru’s grave as she steered them away to lunch.
