“The secretary of the Ministry of Transportation?”

“Do you know who…”

“What, Kaidou? What is it?” asked Neo-Queen Serenity.

“I just know…”

“You know old Tokyo politics and politicians better than I ever did, Rei. What is it? Is he the corrupt sort?”

“I don’t know about corrupt.”

“What about him? You certainly know him, don’t you?”

“He was an aide of my father’s.” Her voice turned to a tone of false jollity. “So, how is he as the secretary of ports or whatever it was?”

“Not bad if not exceptional. He hasn’t been there long enough for me to see if he’s embezzling like the last one.”

Her voice perfectly level and not meeting Serenity’s eyes, Rei said quietly, “Fire him.”

I suppose I see where people are coming from, but I've never been inclined to notice age differences in pairings, let alone be creeped out by that alone if something else major and bad isn't going on. It never would have occurred to me.

They're more relaxed about that kind of thing in Japan, I think. The only time manga has squicked me out is with that kid/teacher pairing in CCS. That was where I went "URGH, she's ten and he's twenty-five? WTF?!"
