“I’m very proud of you, Small Lady,” Neo-Queen Serenity told her, freed at last from her crystal prison.

“I’m sorry I took it,” the princess murmured almost inaudibly, offering up the Silver Jewel. “I just wanted to be more like you.”

The beautiful lady laughed elegantly.

Looking up through her pink lashes, Chibiusa tried to see Tsukino Usagi in the woman she would become. She was graceful, not clumsy. She was willowy, not fat from eating too much candy. Her hair was the same style yes, but it was soft- and fine-looking, not tangled or haphazardly tied up. Her face was calm, not twisted in annoyance or about to yell at her.

She caught her eye and Chibiusa froze at being found out. There was just a glimmer of amusement that reminded her of Ikuko catching her sneaking a cookie before dinner.

She launched herself at her, crying maybe “Mama!” and maybe “Stupid Usagi!”
