His computer ha crashed and deleted his paper. His backup disk then deleted its contents. He hadn’t turned in a rough draft that was more than a page of meaningless scribble, so Tomoe Souichi had to retype his report from memory the night before it was due.
The ink that he had only just been able to get, why he’d waited this long, worked perfectly. His printer didn’t. He had to run to the computer lab on the other side of campus, which was closed, then to the library on the other other side of campus.
It started to rain and he put his jacket over his paper, not his body. He need coffee. A truck splashed muddy water on him as he crossed the street to the coffee shop (he guarded the paper). Perfectly understandably, as he yanked open the door at five a.m., dripping muddy water and rain, his eyes bloodshot and clothes from the day before, he saw the woman of his dreams.
