Despite being a genius of unrivaled proportion, Mizuno Ami almost failed kindergarten.
“Paint in the lines.”
“But I wanna paint a pony.”
“The lines are for a tree.”
“But I wanna paint a pony.”
“You are a kindergartener,” snapped her teacher. “You will conform to the lines.”
Ami stuck out her chin stubbornly, but didn’t cry.
When her teacher’s back was turned, the assistant teacher, still in college herself, snuck stealthily over to her. Ami looked up at her suspiciously.
“I shouldn’t be doing this, but… maybe students shouldn’t always conform. Maybe it’s okay to be different or exceptional.
She handed Ami a blank, empty, lineless sheet of paper.
