The trees were ablaze with fire and so was her soul, for how could this daughter of Mars’ not be?, and so was his love, for how could he not be caught like a moth to the flame?
“Winter is falling,” said the shrine maiden as snow started to fall on them. Her long black hair was dusted white with it, unlike his own hair, which looked no different with the ice crystals caked on it.
“Winter, your element, not mine,” she said to the general of a past age, going out dressed as a schoolgirl, not a priestess.
For them, there was no spring.
